The Legacy of the Cowpoke Fall Gathering in Loomis
It all began in 1995, when Bert and Carol Braun, inspired by their trip to a cowboy poetry event in Elko, Nevada, decided to bring this art form to Loomis, California. That year, they organized the first-ever Cowpoke Fall Gathering, a celebration of Western culture and cowboy poetry, and it quickly became a local favorite. Fast forward to today, and the event continues to thrive, drawing cowboy poets, musicians, and fans from all around.
Held annually at the historic Blue Goose Event Center, located near the High Hand Brewery, this gathering is more than just a performance—it’s a community tradition. The event has always focused on storytelling, with poets like Bill Brewster sharing heartfelt and often humorous tales of life on the ranch. Over the years, the event has grown to accommodate larger audiences, but it has never lost its down-to-earth charm.
The Gathering also features live music, including the return of The Heifer Belles, who will take the stage on Friday night only. Their blend of Americana, folk, and country makes for a perfect evening of toe-tapping fun.
Beyond the entertainment, the Cowpoke Fall Gathering supports local causes. Proceeds benefit the South Placer Heritage Foundation, a group dedicated to preserving the history and heritage of the area. Thanks to their efforts, the Blue Goose Event Center was restored and transformed into the stunning venue it is today.
